Emma Watson takes on gender inequality and feminism in UN speech

Why did it take a celebrity to focus the world’s attention on gender inequality?

People haven’t been listening but it’s clearly time they did.

As the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson was asked to launch the organisation’s new gender equality initiative #HeForShe.

The actress gave a moving speech in New York, which received a standing ovation, in which she called upon men to do their part to help end discrimination against women.

1 reason why killer stats aren’t everything

Let me start by saying, seeing great stats from your content is great. Most people post on their blog because they want others to read, ‘tweet’, ‘share’ and ‘like’ their work. So of course, it is important to blog with your audience in mind.

But may I suggest that even above this, you should write for yourself.

Write about your interests and write using your voice.

If you want your content to standout from the sea of sameness, be your unique self. By being consistent to who you are, your followers will get to know you and they will respect you too.

Of course it’s important to know who your followers are, what they like and what they will read. But by keeping your posts true to who you are, people will follow you for your unique content and they will keep coming back for more. So, you don’t have to be chained to the stats. The ball is in your court.

What do you think is now important when blogging?

Demand for university threatened as tuition fees set to sky rocket?

The grounds of Australian universities are filled to overflowing with students scurrying from class to class like crabs in shells of aspiration. The country’s top research universities, Melbourne, Sydney and Australian National University (ANU) are huge by world standards – typically enrolling 40,000 students, in comparison to American counterpart Stanford University with just under 16,000 filling their hallowed halls. With the Australian government’s budget cuts to higher education and plans to increase per-student contribution, some are concerned demand for degrees may drop and see the robust university sector fade to a skeleton.
